Week Ten
Last week, I focused my attention particularly towards light, as I feel this is a great way to make a photo more interesting and beautiful. I decided that I could take this idea even further for my final shoot.
I think there have been a few shoots throughout this project which I have struggled with. Certainly, the shoots that didn’t work so well are the ones that were more rushed. So, I decided to really take my time with this shoot and find that decisive moment, where the light hits an object just right. This is definitely my favourite shoot so far of this project and I’m pleased I really took my time and composed each image well.
As well as light, I continued to think about all of the ideas and visual styles I have explored so far. Again, I shot a combination of carefully composed images and more spontaneous shots. I also focused a little bit on food, as I have done previously – as I think this is a great representation of the everyday. I also thought about other things that feature heavily in my day-to-day life in lockdown such as my bed and the people I spend every day with. I also thought that the toilet roll shot might be a good reference to the current events of the world!
I’m very happy with this shoot and it’s taught me that I work best when I really take my time. I think I would like to combine a lot of these images with some of the other successful images from the rest of the project. I don’t want to confine the book to only my last few shoots as I think there have been strong images throughout. I also feel it’s important that a visual representation of my everyday actually shows everyday, not just the last few weeks. However, I will also make reference to the last few weeks in lockdown, as I think it’s important to document such a monumental event in history if I have the ability to do so.
