Week Five
After trying a slightly different style last week, I wanted to continue establishing my own style and meaning through my work. I’ve been thinking a lot more about what I really want to express through my images this week, and I was reminded of the research I did at the very beginning on Shore and Eggleston. One of the features I particularly noticed about their work, was the everyday perspective. They often capture objects as if they are seeing them from a human’s perspective. In other words, rather than setting up the shot, getting the lines straight and choosing a particular vantage point, they simply just point and shoot at something as it would usually be viewed. Whether it be looked down at a table, or up at a picture frame, I think this gives images a much more ‘everyday’ feel.
Therefore, for this week’s shoot I concentrated on just walking around the house and shooting things as I see them. Making sure not to bend down or adjust my angle in any particular way. I didn’t pay as much attention to light and shadows as I usually would, so I’m not so confident about some of these images. But it was an interesting technique to try. I think if I combined this with more of my style of colours and light it would work a lot better. I do also like images that are carefully framed however, so I don’t think I will completely dismiss this in my work. There’s something very satisfying about straight lines in a photograph and wonky photos can sometimes be difficult to look at.
I think I need to continue looking at photographers and inspiration for my final outcome to decide what I want to photograph next…
