Week Six
As I discussed in last weeks shoot, I want to continue to think more about my final outcome. After looking at Stephen Shore’s ‘A Road Trip Journal’ I’ve put more consideration into making my own book.
It might be interesting to create my own journal/diary of some kind. I could document each day, perhaps with some writing alongside it. It would be like a holiday album or photo diary, but instead of capturing all the exciting, appealing moments of my life, I would be capturing the normal, mundane, yet still fascinating parts of my everyday life. It would be a collection of moments from day-to-day life that will otherwise be forgotten. I think that’s far more meaningful than photographing moments which will always exist in your memory. So, for this week’s shoot I simply focused on taking one or two images a day, that represent what I did that day.
As in last week’s shoot, some of the photos were taken from a deliberately ‘ordinary’ perspective, with no particular attention to framing and compostion. However, I did also construct some of the images carefully if I felt it would make for a better photograph. My last shoot lacked decent lighting, which is something I feel is important in making the everyday look beautiful. So, for this shoot I paid much more attention to the lighting and time of day. I think a few of these images worked really well and have potential to feature in the book, but overall I’m not overly impressed with the outcome. I think the pressure to find something to photograph everyday perhaps put me off a bit. Moving on, I would like to think about trying a new technique to try and spark some more inspiration.
