Continued Diary Entries: Lockdown Week 3 (6th April – 13th April 2020)

Monday 6th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 15: As week three of lockdown begins, the days are beginning to blur into one. It’s gone reasonably quickly though. I’m thankful that I’ve had my housemates here to keep me company. Despite the difficult situation that we’re all in, we will take with us a lot of memories from this crazy and unusual experience.

Tuesday 7th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 16: I was supposed to be going on an Easter break to Kent with my family this week. I was really looking forward to going home this holiday as I’m not there very often. It’s awful being so uncertain of when I will be able to see them all again, but I continue to be grateful that they are all healthy and safe.

Wednesday 8th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 17: We went for another trip to the supermarket today to pick up some essentials. It was even busier than last time and the shelves were considerably more empty… are people STILL panic buying? It’s sad to see that we still can’t all be considerate of one another. I know a lot of people that have been personally effected by the coronavirus now… people who have got the virus, people with family members who have sadly passed and people who’s jobs are being severely impacted. It makes it feel all that more real and my thoughts are with them, constantly.

Thursday 9th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 18: The weather was incredible today. I’m continually grateful for our roof terrace. The government are threatening to extend lockdown because people aren’t staying inside and Easter bank holiday weekend is approaching. It’s frustrating to see that people are still meeting at parks and beaches, whilst the rest of us stay in our homes. The more we stay inside now, the sooner we get our lives back.

Friday 10th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 19: Today, the weather was amazing again. I spent most of the day on the terrace, doing work. I’m looking forward to Easter weekend, despite not being with my family. We will make the best of it. Despite efforts to stay positive though, every day brings more news about the virus. Today it was announced that the global death toll has now reached more than 100,000. The UK death toll has now reached 8,958. 980 people died today alone, a record daily number that exceeds Italy and Spain’s worst daily figures so far. Where did our country go wrong?

Saturday 11th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 20: It’s lifting my spirits a lot that these three weeks are almost over. I know it’s likely that the lockdown will be extended, but it’s encouraging to think that we have already got through this first challenge. We will be looking back on this time before we know it.

Sunday 12th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 21: The number of deaths in the UK has now reached over 10,000. It’s Easter today. My housemates and I made a roast dinner and celebrated. Despite not being with my family as I had planned, this will certainly be a holiday to remember.

Monday 13th April – LOCKDOWN DAY 22: It has been three weeks today since the government announced an official lockdown. The death toll has reached 11,329. The government is expected to review the situation on Thursday, but currently there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. It’s getting hard to stay positive. But each day is a step closer to the end, whether we know when that will be or not.
