The situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic has very quickly progressed over the last week, and suddenly Uni is now beginning to close. This means my project may take a bit of a turn…
In this week’s online tutorial I discussed with Simon how I will progress considering the current circumstances. Luckily, I won’t have to change my project too much, as I was already mostly photographing my interior surroundings. I was hoping to go back to my mum’s house and my grandparent’s house to shoot some different interiors, but unfortunately it looks unlikely that I’ll be able to do that now. I hope that I can stay motivated and continue to find inspiration in my student house.
I’ve been thinking about how I could use this situation to my advantage too. In last weeks group reviews, my classmates said that they felt a sense of entrapment and loneliness when looking at some of my photos. Although this hadn’t originally been my intention, it might fit in quite well with what is to come in the next few weeks/months. It’s likely that the UK will go into lockdown very soon, meaning we will all be confined to our own houses. Perhaps this sense of loneliness and a feeling of being trapped is something I can emphasise through this inevitably isolating and unusual time. I don’t want to make this project all about Covid-19, because I’m happy with the strong ideas and meanings that have already developed through my work – but it would be quite interesting to tie this in with the current circumstances and show people how I was feeling through this event.
Once uni is completely closed there will be less resources available to us. Therefore it’s going to be far more challenging to make a book and it’s unlikely I’ll be able to do this myself. I’m disappointed because I was looking forwarded to taking on this new challenge for my final project. However, Simon suggested that I take a look at book printing options as there are many websites that will do this for me. Depending on costs, this could be an option. Other than that, he suggested I just continue with what I’ve been doing and continue to look at artists, perhaps those who are also responding to the events of Covid-19 through their photographic work…
