Typing key words like ‘Photographing Beauty in the Mundane’ into Google brought me to photographer Eric Kim’s page. Kim writes a lot about why he enjoys finding beauty in ordinary things. He says that the ‘mistake we make is thinking that we can only make good photos when we travel to exotic places.’ This is exactly what I’m trying to convey through my work.
In this short article, Kim explains that ‘An everyday photographer treats everyday life as sacred, beautiful, and exciting. We photograph our “boring” everyday lives, and find joy in it.’ Kim advises to focus on colours, textures and light, as well as giving a few examples of photographers who successfully photograph the everyday in a way that makes the ordinary appear as beautiful; such as Edward Weston.
