This week, I looked at Keith Arnatt’s work and it inspired me to start working with food. Arnatt’s photos of rubbish often feature discarded foods, bringing elements of mystery and colour to his work. Although often mouldy and rotting, the food in his pictures, along with the coloured plastics and various other pieces of rubbish, always look interesting. Eggleston and Shore also focus a lot on food in their work – as it’s such a large part of our everyday routines. The usual food photography we see is often in magazines or on Instagram. The food is made to look appealing. But like Eggleston, Shore and Arnatt, I wanted to focus on food in a different way.
