Although I wasn’t overly pleased with some of the individual photos in my previous ‘Light’ shoot, I’m happy with the visual style I’m starting to develop already for this project. As I discussed on the post about my previous project, Grandad’s Shed, I would love to make a collection of images over a long period of time that eventually work as a series of photographs of spaces that are important or sentimental to me. It’s important therefore, that these images all consist of a similar visual style. I’m very happy with the use of colour and lighting in Grandad’s Shed, therefore this is what I want to aim to achieve again in this project.
As this is our last third year project, I want to get back to what I really love about photography and enjoy developing my unique style as much as I can. I also think it’s important that I start to think about both style and substance at this early stage of the project. I often neglect to think about these things until later on and then struggle to make my images work together in the form of a book or series of photographs. This is something I really want to think about this time.
Having said that, it might also be interesting to play around with style a little bit! I think it’s also important to experiment with other styles, colours and techniques incase something works better or adds an element of meaning to the project that I might not have thought about. So far I’ve looked at three very similar photographers, who’s work I am very familiar with. I think it would be beneficial and more of a challenge to also find some work that’s a little different and see if this inspires my project further.
