Project Inspiration: ‘Grandad’s Shed’ 2018 Project

In 2018, I did a project titled ‘Grandad’s Shed’. The idea behind the project was that I would photograph an everyday, seemingly unremarkable space but focus on light and texture to make the photographs aesthetically pleasing. I wanted to make this project personal and nostalgic by focusing on a space that I spent a lot of time in during Summer as a child. To me, these ordinary spaces hold a lot of memories and meaning and remind me of a very important person in my life and I wanted that to be somewhat reflected through my photographs.

The work was also heavily inspired by Nigel Shafran, in particular his Dad’s Office project – which draws on themes of reality, family, nostalgia and the everyday. For this Resolution project, I will be looking at similar themes and ideas and hope to achieve a similar aesthetic quality to that of ‘Grandad’s Shed.’
